Some of you may know the story of the founding of Notre Dame, a story of persistence, courage and fortitude. The University’s founder, Holy Cross priest Father Edward Sorin, immigrated from France at age 26 to found a school dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus, in the Indiana wilderness. Without financial resources, the school struggled to survive, plagued by cholera and fires that destroyed what few buildings there were on campus. And yet, Fr.     Fighting to Build on Tradition: Deswood Etsitty '93 and the Navajo Nation

    Deswood Etsitty '93 worked with the Saint Michael Indian School on the Navajo Nation and a group of Notre Dame architect students to design the campus’ first new building, a community gym.

    A facilities planner for Indian Health Service, Etsitty plans and designs health care facilities that incorporate tribal beliefs, culture, and values into the construction of modern health care settings.

    Meet Latino Studies Student Clare Wieland '22

    Meet Clare Wieland, a junior from Bloomington, IL majoring in 
    science preprofessional studies with a supplementary Spanish major and Latino studies minor.

    The Institute for Latino Studies (ILS) has provided her with resources and faculty connections that have helped her develop a project on the effects of COVID-19 in the Latino community.
