Our programs overall we have been around for next year, we'll be 24 years. So we've been doing this for a while and what we do is offer college courses, college type courses to.
07:02:37 PM
Avary Serpa - Newport RI
Um, High school students so that they can get a taste of what college is like. Students will come and live on campus. We're also going to talk about international programs too, so you'll hear more about that. But for the domestic programs, you'll be coming on campus, living in the dorm, going to class, really getting a good sense of what college is all about. And we just pack those days so that you really get a true sense of.
What it's going to be like and what you're going some of the skills that you're going to have to bring once you do apply to college. So I will say this, our programs.

Are a little different than our peer programs. All of our courses are taught by Notre Dame faculties so you don't find that too often at any of our other peer institutions. And you of course will be connecting with with like minded students just like yourself. So thanks for taking the step and tuning in, I will.
Start off by talking about the leadership seminars program, and then I'll pull Kevin Mcabee or he will come into the meeting and tell you a little bit about summer scholars online and then Curtis Urban.
Well, I'm sorry. Kevin's going to talk to you about summer scholars, and then Jessica Frazier is going to talk to you about summer scholars online. And then Curtis Urban, we'll talk to you about study abroad.
Adam G.

And then we'll just, we'll talk to you about the application overview, overview, what that's all about, how, who, who's eligible to apply to what program and then I'll talk a little bit about financial aid and then we'll have a Q&A. So you'll have lots of time to talk about or to ask questions if we didn't cover something that you were thinking about.
So, um, my first.
Task here is to talk to you about leadership seminars. And leadership seminars is a 10 day program and it is for rising juniors only. It is our signature recruiting program. We look for the top students in the country. We want to bring them to campus, get to know them, make sure they get to know Notre Dame. And we do that by paying for them to attend. So it's a two, it's a free tuition.
Program. We only admit 100 students. We last year received over 1000 applications and we only admitted 100 students, so it's extremely competitive.
Hannah S.
07:05:03 PM
is this presentation being recorded and will it be shared with us for future reference?
But, um, you will get to come and stay on campus for 10 days and there are three courses that we offer. You'll choose one of those courses.
To study in and you'll be attending class every day from 9 to 4 and meeting again. Like minded students just like yourselves.
Leadership seminar topics. You'll find those on our website at pre-college.nd.edu. And those are they're all kind of abroad.

The broad topic so unlike summer scholars which kind of gets into more detail of a topic, these leadership seminars are really tackle.
Umm.

Leadership Seminars: https://precollege.nd.edu/leadership-seminars/
Global issues and national issues and those kinds of things. So it's it's more of a broader scale type topic.
And there will be lots of conversing in the classroom. We like to hear what students think. Faculty like to hear what students think. They bring in faculty speakers. They'll take you on a field trip to Chicago.
Yeah, so um.
We'll get through. I believe you see the dates of the program July 22nd through August.
The 2nd and um again, it's for high school juniors only and the application is due and maybe Jess is going to cover that when she talks about the application. The application will be due towards the end of January.
And now, Kevin, if you want to come talk about summer scholars.
Hello everyone, good evening. My name is Kevin McCabe. I'm associate program director in the office of Pre College programs as well as our compliance manager. So I get the honor and privilege of working with most of our science and business faculty for most of our courses. For summer scholars. Our Summer Scholars program is a two week program. We are turning this into two sessions this year. So the first session is from June 10th to the 24th and the 2nd is from July 1st to 15th, so the first day.

Is just for rising juniors?
As you're moving day that'll be the Saturday when you would arrive. Both different sessions have different courses. So we are have almost all courses are exclusive to one session or the other. So make sure you say take some time on our website precollege.nd.edu Jess is ahead of me with the link right there. So and look into what courses that interest you that really just speak to you. So every course of the way that this works is students apply for a particular course they take.
Up to they choose their top three courses and we do offer an option for kind of a more broad option for their third course. So we offer courses such as accounting, Marketing, Life Sciences. We have an electrical engineering course now. We also offer a film course, journalism, psychology, the law's acting in musical theater. These are ones that we bring back year after year and are just fantastic. This year we've actually expanded our portfolio so we actually have a.
Rhea M.
07:08:32 PM

Visual design course this year, that's new. We also have a course that looks into public policy making as well as another course that investigates the the connection and correlation with social media and social justice and looking at how the differences in access to Internet based technologies and how that impact is in different geographic and demographic regions. So over the course of the two weeks, in a very similar fashion to leadership seminars, the students are in class from 9 to 4.
Every day. So they get an hour for lunch at noon, some afternoon. Some courses actually take a local field trips, some do service in the afternoons. Every participant is going to participate in some form of service, if not multiple opportunities over there. Two weeks here.
Additionally, students, you know get to experience what it's like to be at Notre Dame, you know dorm life and we're going to be assigned to a dorms. Yes most likely they will not be air conditioned dorms. So this is not our choice or option. So just that's just something that we all have to deal with in the summer. But we will have our counselors. So the this the the people who are in charge of your students in the dorms that are looking, overlooking them and everything are all current Notre Dame undergrads some of which are grad students. So we really give them the.
The the platform to really just show what Notre Dame's about and getting to live that Notre Dame life. So in addition to a service, we also our students will get to experience all kinds of different Notre Dame traditions, some of which the counselors will bring dorm traditions into the fold whenever possible. But we also offer several things like bookstore basketball. We offer a skate night so students get to go ice skating for fun. We also do a trivia night.
We do an open mic night. So we, I mean, we just get to you get to experience everything that college life in general, but more specifically what it's like at Notre Dame, pretty much everything Notre Dame except for football, because we just can't seem to get that to happen during the summer. Go figure. So almost every course does take a field trip, some of which are local. For instance, our marketing course of visits nonprofits every year in locally in town, and that is actually wrapped into the course. So there's several others that do.
Go to Chicago for various things. Sitting in on District Court, our astronomy students will visit the Adler Planetarium. So there there's things that are directly related to courses that they just don't get to experience here in South Bend, but really doesn't get to highlight just the proximity of these other areas. So and then our program does culminate in a closing dinner and dance. So it's kind of like that winding down procedure. So and this program is off open to both rising juniors and rising seniors.
So with the only caveat that students must be 16 years old by the time that they begin. So I think that's that's pretty good snapshot of summer scholars in general. Next I'd like to bring up Jessica Frazier so she can tell you guys all about summer scholars online.
Thanks, Kevin.
Hey guys, I'm going to tell you more about our summer scholars online program. This will be held virtually from July 17th through the 28th, and it's available to high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors. So this year we have 10 online courses to choose from and students will earn a college credit upon completion of this program. So a really important note about the summer Scholars online program in particular is you do need to be aware that students are required to be online at certain times of the day.
So classes are held Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and then from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and that's an Eastern Time. So before applying, I'd encourage students to make sure that those time frames are going to work with your summer schedule outside of the classroom. There are optional Notre Dame information sessions for students to join. And again, this is voluntary, but it's an order for students to hear from various departments and resources on campus.
That's a great opportunity to learn more about Notre Dame and what's offered to students. So in general, this is a really great opportunity if for whatever reason you can't make it to campus because of your other summer plans, but you still want to learn from Notre Dame faculty and get an introduction to a college level course and earn that college credit. So I'm now going to turn it over to Curtis and he'll tell you more about our study of broad programs.

Thanks Jess. Hi everyone. I'm Curtis Urban, I'm the international program director and the office pre College. I've been here six years now, crazy to think but I I had up all of our study abroad opportunities on for pre college. Just a little bit about studying abroad in general. Study abroad is critical to the mission of the University of Notre Dame. 75% of undergraduates at last count participate in study abroad during their.
Undergraduate career and some degrees.
As Notre Dame tries to mold globally minded citizens looking to make a difference in their communities and their States and the world, there's really no better way to jump start that process by than by engaging in cross cultural exchange at international level.
Pre-college, we try to give students a little a little taste of what the majority of Notre Dame undergraduates on campus experience.
During their academic journey our programs are only for two weeks but it's it's really incredible what we can cram into a two week period in all of our locations. The first I want to talk a little bit more about is Italy. This is now our seventh time running the Italy program. It's our original study abroad program and pre college where students will see the Eternal City to study the built landscape with Notre Dames our.

Archaeology, architecture and anthropology professors, for those of you that don't know, architecture students spend their entire third year in Rome as part of their program, and we really tap into that and benefit from those resources as we, as we show students the architecture of this, this ancient city. And you'll see dozens of historical sites. I promise you'll have dozens of scoops of Gelato. I think maybe the count was 15 last year, so no shortage.
There's no shortage of visual auto there. It's a wonderful program. We can't wait to show you guys everything that Rome has to offer. We also take a weekend trip to Florence as a little bit of a dichotomy, focusing on Renaissance, Renaissance art. It's a different city. It's a smaller city, but it gives students a kind of different taste of what it really has to offer. That program will run from June 3rd to June 17th.

You can get an idea of the experiences of South Africa study abroad students here: https://express.adobe.com/page/wxil7rv2TbuuA/?utm_source=Adobe%20Spark&utm_medium=Day%20in%20Life%20Spark:%20South%20Africa&utm_campaign=Day%20in%20Life%20Spark:%20South%20Africa&utm_content=null&utm_term=null
The next program I want to talk about is our South Africa program.
South Africa is in its second year. It's led by South African native Andre Venter. He is a psychology professor at Notre Dame. He's the director of undergraduate studies for psychology, really an institution on campus. The key focus of this program will be on South Africa's complicated and tumultuous experience with race through our investigation of apartheid studies.
We'll also consider how these kind of new understandings of race and identity impact our own understanding of our sense of ourself, our own place in society.
The tip rounds out with kind of a focus on South Africa's efforts at conservation. As many of minority know, it's it's a beautiful country with a beautiful landscape, beautiful flora and fauna. And we'll spend the kind of the second week focusing on how the nation is working to kind of preserve those aspects of life we'll go to. We'll go to Cape Town historical Johannesburg coastal cabins at Titsey Common National Park. It's really an unbelievable journey and the last three days are spent on Safari.
Kruger National Park. So really, there's not much more you can ask for. That program runs from June 15th to June 30th.

Our newest program which I went about talk about next, is our London study abroad program. London by some would be considered the center of the Notre Dame study abroad undergraduate experience. Over 200 students each semester study abroad in London from the University of Notre Dame.
We'll take courses at Fisher Hall. That's right off Trafalgar Square. For those of you who know, who know London will stay at Conway Hall, that's the Notre Dame University dorm. It's a stone slow from the London Eye, and the program's focus will be on the history of London as a trading capital. So we'll be talking monarchy, we'll be talking Shakespeare, we'll be talking global finance. It's all here. And we'll have some really exciting day trips to kind of expose you guys to all those different new ideas. This program will run from July 8th to July 22nd.

And finally, the last program I want to talk about is Ireland. This is our 4th iteration of the Ireland program of exploring the Emerald Isle. As you can imagine, Notre Dame has an intimate connection to Ireland being the Fighting Irish. We'll spend a week in Dublin, a week and a week at Kylemore Abbey on the bucolic western coast of Ireland. Students will study Irish history, literature and culture, grasping how modern island, with its emphasis on sustainability and technology, coincides with the past centered around the land.
The hills on myth and legend this year we have we'll also be doing something new students will have the opportunity to partner with high achieving peers from the Center for Talented Youth at Dublin City College. And it's really a great chance for students to immerse themselves in those cross college exchanges with with peers their age from across the ocean and and kind of share just the coming together of minds and the sharing of ideas and we're really excited about that. This program runs from July 22nd to August 5th.
All programs I'll study abroad programs are for 18 students. Each program is about 2 weeks.
That's for high school juniors rising seniors. Every student who participates will receive one college credit and the apps will be due on January 23rd. Now I'll turn it back over to Jess. I think she has some information regarding the application process overview.
Thanks, Curtis. So we're getting quite a few questions about the application and eligibility requirements. So hopefully I'll be able to answer some of these questions right now. So I want to start off by answering a frequently asked question that we get every year and that is, can I apply for more than one program? And the answer is yes, as long as you meet all the eligibility requirements, you are welcome to apply to more than one program. So you can find the eligibility requirements on our website under your program.

Students must be 16 years old by August 1, 2023 to participate in Summer Scholars, Leadership Seminars, or any of the Study Abroad programs.
Register for our webinar on November 9 for tips on building a strong pre-college application.
Interest. So I'm going to send this to the chat, so hopefully this is helpful as well. So check that out in the chat. So when you are filling out the application, you will find that there are a few different sections that you need to complete. We do our best to mirror what the undergraduate Notre Dame application will look like, just to give students some practice to the college application process. So first it's just personal information like your name, parent information and so on. And then we'll also ask you for your school counselors.
Contact information because we will send them a request via e-mail for your transcript and also for a school profile. Next, we want the contact information of an individual who can provide a letter of recommendation. Again, we will e-mail that person asking for the letter of recommendation on your behalf.
So another frequently asked question is who should write my letter of recommendation, and usually the best person would be a high school teacher who knows you well and has had you in class, whether that be in the past or if they have you in class currently. I'd definitely encourage students to give your school counselor and the person who will be your recommender a heads up to let them know to watch out for that e-mail for us requesting those application materials so it doesn't get lost in their inbox.
As we all know, school counselors and teachers are always so busy you're around, so it's really nice of students to provide them that heads up and also to ask the recommender first before you give us their contact information if they're willing to write the letter on your behalf. So next there's going to be a section for adding activities. This could be a school or a community clubs or organizations or service projects that you have participated in. I would recommend providing a resume.
With this section, it's a really great way to enhance your application and also make it a little bit easier on US readers to see all that you've been involved in and for how long you've been involved in those activities. If you do provide a resume, another tip is please make sure you proofread it, look for spelling and grammar errors, and also have somebody else look at it too. It's always great to have that second pair of eyes just to make sure you are submitting an application, an application that's to the best of your ability.
So after that you'll find that there's a standardized test score section. So Please note we are test optional again this year for all of our programs. So if you have taken the SAT or ACT and you're really happy with your score and think it will enhance your application, then please send it. But don't feel obligated in any way if you have already taken it or if you haven't taken it, again, don't feel obligated to send in that test score if it's not where you want it to be quite yet.
We also do require 2 short essays from students. This is a wonderful opportunity to express your passion for the courses that you have selected in the application and just to demonstrate who you are as a person. And just like with the resume, please have a parent, a counselor, someone you trust proofread your essays. Again, you always want that second pair of eyes on those essays. They're very important part of the application, so take your time with them.
And also for international students, I know we have some watching. You are required to submit a TOEFL or Duolingo Online English test score if you do not currently attend an English speaking high school. So make sure that you have that score as well. Finally, be sure to know the application deadlines for your program of interest. Don't wait until last minute to get those submitted. Especially give your counselors and teachers time again to submit those application materials that are really important.
I think that's all that I have. I also did in the chat put the age requirements. People always ask is there any wiggle room on that? And unfortunately there is not. These are universities set standards. So even if you're just a day or two, if your birthday is a day or two later, you'll just have to wait for the next year to apply to the program that you're interested in if you don't meet those age requirements. So I will turn it over to Andy and she'll talk about financial aid.
ND Admissions LIVE
07:23:59 PM
Financial Aid: Need-based financial aid is available for all domestic and virtual programs. To see if you qualify for an application fee waiver and/or tuition assistance, a parent or legal guardian will need to fill out the Financial Aid Request Form for any program of interest. This can be found under the “Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid” tab on your program of interest. We also have grants available to students living in Indiana and Philadelphia, as well as a grant for students admitted into the on-campus or online Accounting course.
Thanks so much, Jess. We do offer financial aid for all of our programs, but the study abroad programs and it's important to remember that the financial aid is need based only. So it's not based on merit, it's need based only. There is a process that you have to go through to request financial aid. It is on the website and.
That form that just asks you for your, um, the size of your household, the household income, the reasons why you're asking for financial aid. So it's a quick one sheet. We don't need additional materials, but just a one sheet snapshot of your situation and why you need financial aid, those.
Those financial aid forms are due one week prior to.
The due date of the application. So we're talking um, one week before summer scholars deadline, one week before the leadership deadline and.
Again the study abroad we don't have, we currently don't we're working on it but we don't have financial aid for that yet. I do want to specifically mention for our Indiana folks we do have we received a Lily grant this year. So if you do live in Indiana and.
Would like to request financial aid. We do have funding for you, so please don't hesitate to fill out that form. And also we have for folks that live in the Philadelphia area, we have Philly funds that help us.
Help you. So please don't hesitate to file for those financial aids, for financial aid and I think that's everything. Now Kevin's going to lead us through a Q&A, so please put your questions on, post your questions and we'll start answering those for you.
All right, there we go. Thank you so much, Angie. Before we start the Q&A, there were a couple quick pro tips that we wanted to say about the application because it causes a lot of headaches for many people in the past. And the biggest part is with your essay. Make sure you write your essay in a separate word processor. Do not try to write and edit your essay in the application itself. It often happens where students will lose their essay in the application when they don't, you know, save it or update it so highly.
Highly recommended to do that essay elsewhere and then just copy and paste when it gets to gets to the point of you doing that. So the first question that we have here is about the application itself, and it's can you send the counselor name and recommendation name before you submit the application? So what you need to know about the application, I'll field this one real quick so is in your application. As soon as you add the recommender and all of their information, when you hit that button it will send. That's what prompts the e-mail.
To the counselor or the teacher. So before you even hit submit for your application when it's complete, they will get that notification. So highly recommended that you let them know before hitting that button. So next question we have here is, is this presentation being recorded and how can they access it if so, so and you want to?

Great, Curtis, the next question is about fees. So would you like to do a quick rundown of the various fees for the programs?
ND Admissions LIVE
07:27:53 PM
^You can find all recorded webinars here! :)
Sure, uh. So we do have various fees associated with our applications. Application fees for the majority of our programs are our $60.00 study abroad programs are $75 for the application fee. Once you're accepted there, most of our programs have some kind of enrollment confirmation that's just to show our office that you're committed.
2 participation in the program for study abroad the four study abroad programs it's $2000.00. For summer scholars it's $300.00. And for leadership seminars, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's $150.00 and then once accepted into the program you'll.
Need to pay the final tuition fee by the deadline and that varies by program. You can see all the different tuition, final tuition costs on our website and they vary depending on the program and leadership seminars. Does not have a final tuition. The benefit to participating in that program. A couple other questions I saw on here regarding the fee.
Applied to applications, several of you are asking can I apply to multiple applications? Can I get accepted into multiple programs? And the answer is yes, you can apply to as many programs as you want to. I don't know if that necessarily UPS your chance of acceptance. I think one of you asked is will that give me a better chance of being accepted?
I think you just focus on on putting on the best application you can out there knowing that you couldn't have added anything else and it it represents you to the best of your abilities, but you can't participate in more than one program. We have had that happen. We have that every year. The only wrinkle, the only caveat would be if there was kind of an overlap, for example Ireland and leadership seminars overlaps. You couldn't do both those programs if you're admitted to both.

Kevin, back to you.
Outstanding. Thank you, Curtis. Next question I've actually there's two questions and they're really the same answer we have one if your child is a current junior if they are eligible which yes absolutely for all of our programs are rising seniors with the exception of summer scars online any regardless. Yes that is that and then of course the next question rising seniors eligible yes. So like I said the only caveat.

when applying for multiple programs, is it one application?
Is being 16 years of age by August 1st of next year to be eligible and then being in the proper grade? Angie, if a student has not hasn't studied accounting in high school, but has studied Economics and Business studies, can they benefit from the accounting program?

If you apply for more than one program, you will need to fill out an application for EACH program! :)
Absolutely, absolutely. All of these courses are based on a first year college course, so kids come in all the time without having any experience. There are no prerequisites. It's a that it's taught by two professors. They're very thorough, very good at what they do. They've been doing it for a long time, so.
You do not have to have any prerequisites. You'll be fine.
All right. Thank you so much. Next question is when are the notifications for decisions to be released every year?
Who's that for me?
Sure.
OK, so decisions for summer scholars and summer scholars online will be released in April. So the first week in April and study abroad, I'm gonna let Curtis speak to that one. Leadership seminars will be released the first week in March.
Alright, I'm sorry, the second week in March.
And study abroad decisions for all programs will be sent out by the third week of February. I also did see some questions, is there any benefit to applying earlier as opposed to the end? Do we review on a rolling basis? We don't review applications until after the deadline, so there isn't necessarily any benefit to getting it in earlier, but it's just.
Kind of mentioned in her spiel on applications, you want to make sure you give your recommenders plenty of time, your, your teachers, your counselors, plenty of time to get any additional materials submitted. I really whenever you have your application and in the best shape it can be, that's when you want to send it. But as Jess mentioned, don't wait till the last minute. But we no, we do not kind of review on a rolling basis.
Great. Angie, the next question for you is how many applicants do we usually get for these programs?
Sure.
I think I mentioned for leadership this past year we received over 1000 applications and we admitted 100. So that's very competitive. All of these programs are competitive programs so to.
Curtis's point you really want to, you know, do a great job on your application, spend time on it, don't wait till the last minute and submit it. You're competing with other people, so you really want to give it your best shot. Summer Scott, summer scholars.
I totally forgot what the question was.
How many applications?
Ohh, how many applications? OK. So summer scholars this past year, it's different every year. It's been going up every year and we anticipate now that we're offering to sessions that that will increase as well. So last year we had over 1000 applications and 450 students ended up coming. So that's probably about a 50% admit rate. We anticipate that going up even higher though.
What about the?
And study abroad. Curtis can speak to study abroad.
Study abroad, it has kind of gone up each year over the last three years despite kind of global pandemic limiting what we can do in terms of study abroad. But we've added the 4th program London to accommodate all the great applications that are coming in. So as Angie mentioned, just know you are competing against kind of some of your top peers from around the country. So you don't want to wait till the last minute to to throw something together, it's you want to.
Put your best foot forward.
Is the acceptance based mainly on grades, transcripts as an interesting one and maybe we can all speak to it? We try to mirror our our admit process based on the Notre Dame undergraduate application process.
What does that mean? I'm sure you've all heard terms like this or you will increasingly more as in your high school career. But we take a holistic approach to the application. Yes, we're looking at your grades. We want to see that you're challenging yourself in difficult courses. We want to see that you're taking the hardest course your high school has offered as you're doing well in those courses as compared to your peers and maybe that you've done good in a standardized test score. So in that way, yes, grades do matter, but they're just one part of it. We're looking are you a leader in your?
Community, have you overcome a hardship in your life? What? What can you tell us about yourself as an individual within your essays? So really, there isn't one aspect of the application that matters more than any of the others. We look kind of look at all these parts holistically as we review your application. I don't know if you guys want to add anything to that.
Sounded great.
I think that's great. That's great. Yep. Angie's next question is about our letters of recommendation. So I know that we require one letter per application. So a couple questions that were posed is, can do we accept more than a single letter of recommendation? And then the second question is, do you have to use a different letter of recommendation?
Applying for different programs or can you use the same one?
Right. OK. So I'll answer the first question. And um, we don't need multiple letters of recommendation and we actually kind of discourage that because most of the time they're saying the same thing about the students. But if there is something unique about you and about your background and you know, sometimes you maybe.
Switched high schools and you're just starting a new school this year and someone at your old school knows you better. Maybe in an instance like that you would want to submit two different recommendation letters. But unless unless it's going to be a letter that's really going to add to your application and not just repeat what your counselor and what your teacher has already said, we don't usually don't recommend it. And then the second.
Question. You do not have to select another teacher if you're applying to multiple programs. What you need to do is give us a call. Once those, once the letter and your Council report are submitted for one application, give us a call, let us know, and we'll transfer it over to your other application.
And one.
They will. Your your counselor and your teacher will probably get notifications because it sends it automatically when you submit your application. But you can. You can let your counselor and your teacher know they only have to respond to it one time.
Thank you. And then just one other thing to add to that then I'm going, I'm going to borrow a page out of Notre Dame undergrad admissions sessions and that's about letters of recommendation. So while there is no limit to the number of recommendations, what undergrad admissions will always tell you is you want if you have multiple letters, they need to show a different part of you.
So like an academic letter and then another academic letter, another professor something are really showing the same side of you. Whereas if you have, you know, a professor recommendation, then potentially you know you have a really good relationship with you know, you know, your your supervisor possibly at a job or maybe a coach or something like that that can talk about your character. That may be an instance where you would want to add that second letter or something like that. But we don't want to try to break the record like what undergrad admissions was, which I believe.
But it was last we counted Curtis 84 I believe.
They say something like that, yeah.
Yeah, which which, uh, they did not get in. This is part one of the many stories you'll hear as you start taking undergrad admission sessions. So the next question here, Curtis, you could answer this is what is the average class size for summer scholars programs?
Yeah, I think it varies depending on which course you're admitted to. But typically we have anywhere from 15 to 25 students. We keep them relatively small. That's intentional. It's our effort to mirror the Notre Dame undergraduate experience in which you're getting that that kind of great faculty to student.
Issue that you're getting a lot of time with your faculty member, so we keep them small. You get it's a chance to get to know your classmates, get to know your peers over that two week period, but on average you're looking at anywhere from 15 to 25.
That's great. Great. Thank you. Next question we have here is regarding COVID vaccines. We'll just address the elephant in the room right away. So the University of Notre Dame does have a COVID vaccine policy and we adhere to that. So all students will be vaccinated and boosted to note there is a medical exemption process that you can apply for once accepted that goes through University Health services, requires you know, a doctor's note, etcetera. But then that is a separate.
Approval process outside of the office. So plan on you know everyone that's here is fully vaccinated and that's that's how I we're going to be operating in 2023 as well.
So I think that's all of the questions we have at the moment. Um, yes, did any more come in or?
Think we're about there? Oh, we have one more here, so Angie, let's you can take this one. So what extracurricular experiences are the admissions team looking for in a candidate for summer scholars?
We want to know everything you're doing. So we're not looking for anything specific. We just want to know everything that you're doing, and that can be your activities at school. It can be outside of school, church, community. Some people are involved in their city and some people are involved in organizations within their city. Some students spend a lot of time taking care of their family. They come from a big family and they have family.
Obligations. Anything and everything that you do.
Tell it. You need to share that with us. So that tells us who you are and what you deal with on a daily basis. So we're interested, of course, in leadership and especially when you're looking at the leadership seminars, you definitely want to be that person who who really wants in. This actually embraces the mission of Notre Dame too, who really wants to make the world a better place.
To you know, your efforts are not just to pad your resume, but you really have a personal value that you are putting into what you're doing. So anything and everything that you want to include, we want to hear about.
Great. Curtis, another question I want to throw your way is, is there a preference for applying after your sophomore or or versus your junior year in attending our program?
No, there there's no preference. It's we're just looking for students who are.
Interested in engaging in pre college programs and Notre Dame students that are passionate about the courses that they're applying to and learning more and growing intellectually. There's some no, no, no preference at all. We welcome kind of all applications for anybody who's eligible for for for a particular program.
All right. Thank you Angie. I got another recommendation question here. So if applying for a topic centric course, say you know like engineering or astronomy or something along those lines is, is it preferred to have a recommendation from a teacher from that particular topic or subject from your school?
I think that always helps, don't you? I mean you you already have it's it's obviously going to show us that you already have a little bit of experience in that topic and a teacher can reveal to us, you know, how you did in the course, what you contributed to the course.
What you got out of the course. So, um, it's definitely a recommendation, but it's not a necessity.
